Former Barca coach Tito Vilanova dies from throat cancer aged 45

, former coach, who succeeded Pep Guardiola at and won the title in his only season in charge, died on Friday afternoon aged 45 after a long battle with throat cancer.

FC Barcelona posted a message on the , saying: “the Club wishes to express its most heartfelt sympathy to his family, who are being joined in these moments of mourning by FC Barcelona members and fans all around the world, as well as the rest of the footballing and sporting world.”

Barcelona will also open a space in the main grandstand at the Camp Nou Stadium for anyone who wishes to express their condolences, while , sent a message on the stating that Vilanova was “an eternal reference for FC Barcelona both in human and sporting terms.
