What are kinds of SSD for Asus Zenbook ux21 ux32 Laptop Ultrabooks

Asus Zenbook UX series SSD

About SSD Module useful ~

The SSD Review stumbled upon a dirty little secret about the ; specifically the SSD part of the name.  It seems that when you buy one, you might be picking up a model with an XM11 SSD, Phison mSata series or it might be a Sandisk U100, but unfortunately they are the same price and a similar model number making them very difficult to tell apart … until you use it.  The SandForce drive AData drive is significantly faster than the Sandisk drive which uses its own proprietary controller.  The difference is not crippling but it is certainly noticeable when benchmarking and using the system.  The final result was that size does matter, the 11.6″ UX21 has SandForce while the 13.3″ UX31 does not, though both are still very nice Ultrabooks.

Performance comparison ~ Sandisk vs ADATA

ASUS made quite a splash with the new Zenbook Prime UX31A and UX21A. Although there is a lot to like, there are a few that feel a bit cheated by an underperforming SSD that is included.

The is that the Zenbook Prime ships with one of two very different SSDs which have the same capacity but dramatic differences in performance. When you open the box you will either discover a fast ADATA XM11, or incredibly slow Sandisk U100 SSD. The model numbers are exactly the same so until you have the box in your possession and look at the sticker, there is no way to know what you are getting.

ASUS sells from a variety of online retailers so seeing the box before shipping is impossible. To make matters even worse the SSD has a non-standard connector so if you happen to get stuck with the Sandisk (like I did), there is nothing you can do about it. ASUS customer service said there was nothing they could do, and said it would void my warrenty if I attempted to swap it out. Not cool ASUS, not cool.

Normally this type of thing wouldn't be an issue as suppliers routinely do this all the time, but in this instance, the performance is not in the same ballpark.

Below are the benchmarks of the Sandisk U100 compared to the ADATA XM11 as well as a couple others to provide some perspective. Both drives tested are the 256GB SSD , but from what I have seen the 128GB models have similar performance profiles.

How about Phison SSD ~ Controller PS3108

Phison is a manufacturer for Asus laptop. It is not famous brand for consumer, but the ssd is the best compatible for asus ux21 / ux31. Maybe it is a good choose for you laptop.

Phison's PS3108 mSATA delivers all the of flash disk technology with the Serial ATA I/II/III and is fully compliant with the standard mSATA form factor. PS3108 mSATA is a small form factor with the advantages of high density, fast read/write performance and low power consumption. Moreover, the small size of the PS3108 mSATA makes it an ideal SSD solution for space-restricted devices
